Start-up Companies at UIUC: What You Need to Know

Back to main menu

I would like to promote my start-up company. Are there any competitions or business fairs in the Champaign-Urbana area?

  • The Cozad Business Plan Competition
The V. Dale Cozad Business Plan Competition encourages participants to develop an entrepreneurial spirit. Contestants are invited to create a technology-based business plan, and teams compete for $20,000 in prize money based on the quality and commercial potential of their business plan. There is no fee to enter the competition, and at least one member of each team must be a full-time student in good standing at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
  • i-emerging
This annual start-up business fair is the University of Illinois’ premier showcase for emerging technologies and young technology companies. Six to ten start-up companies affiliated with the University of Illinois are invited to make presentations to a group of investors, venture capitalists, and corporations. The goal of i-emerging is to raise awareness of the cutting-edge research being done at the University and bring together start-up companies and potential investors.
  • techShow
Each year, techCommUnity hosts techShow, an event dedicated to showcasing local high-tech companies. For an entire evening, area businesses have an open platform to show off their cutting-edge technology, network with other high-tech companies, and connect with well-qualified potential employees. TechShow's dynamic, trade-show atmosphere is designed to build community awareness of these businesses and emphasize the importance of technology to the future of the local economy.

  • techStart

  • TechStart is an annual conference that focuses on entrepreneurs, specifically, high-tech entrepreneurs. Featured speakers at this event address topics such as funding, marketing, legal, and human resources issues.
